Hi and thanks for visiting me over in Sweden today! I lived in China for three years back in the 80s where I was a volunteer teacher for VSO. Neither I nor my students ever took their shoes off, although we did use cloth slippers when indoors.
What an interesting post. I admire people like yourself who can assimilate into different cultures, making new connections and giving a good impression of the U.S.

how long were you with vso? i am sure you met many amazing people. i am ever in awe of people who give of themselves in this way.
